One year ago, we opened our doors with the goal of creating a space where movement is for everyone, and the impossible becomes possible. A gym where silly things happen everyday and there is variety around every corner. This has been my dream come true in so many ways, some that I didn’t even know yet. What happened and what’s next?
Year 1 recap
Year one was the year of foundations. A year of systems, websites, taxes, experimentation and offerings. We put our hearts out there in our classes and slammed our heads against the computer trying to get all the backround to be smooth and clear. Some of you emailed and texted us issues you ran into and that was so helpful!
Classes really felt like the opitome of if we build it they will come. AND YOU DID. We have such a small team and with no marketing budget people keep finding us like it was meant to be. We put out what we wanted to teach, Adult gymnastics, circus classes, handstands, parkour, flips, ninja warrior, (The list is so long I’ll stop there).
I’m still surprised by the results as over 70% of our clientelle are ADULTS. Very often people assume we are a kid focused gym (maybe the color scheme and the outfits who knows). The reality is our kids programs have been growing up our natural growth has been in adult classes so that’s what we have added more of. We will keep adding classes where there is strong interest but also from here one of my primary goals is to have kids and adult classes simultaneously at different times of the day.
Year 2: What’s next?
Fostering connection outside of classes.
You all have noticed the natural community pockets that have come up. From acro, tumbling, parkour, different groups have started to use this space to come together. To foster this it’s important to me to continue making sure there are plenty of times where no classes are going on where we can train in a “jam” type setting. This year I aim to bring community ambasadors in to create and foster intentional connection, opening circles, introductions and to welcome new people by integrating them. We all naturally have some trepidation on entering a new community and we can make that easier.
3rd Space
We are naturally a 3rd space where friend come to connect even when not being active. We can add to this by creating extra non physical activities such as board game nights, after workout dinner outings, etc. Most gyms I have worked at pushing community open options to the late night when no one can be out anyway. By having jams at peak afterwork hours we give unstructed time for connection.
Community Gatherings
We ran two big free events this year, Thanksgiving potluck which had over 70 people and a Christmas eve open play. Working with you all we are going to do more things like this all year round. To help support this I’ll be reaching out to create community ambassadors, a party planning committee and more so we can co-create some amazing events together. Some of my personal favorites also include a weekly board game night.
Simultaneous Classes
The other thing I want to highlight how our classes will be structured. Classes of multiple ages Simultaneously. Siblings can be in separate classes while adults train or stretch in the back. This already exists at a few of our 6pm time slots but we will have it for all! For example Kids Parkour / Ninja 6 – 10 on one half, Kids PArkour 10-16 on the other, and Adult Flexibility, handstands, etc in the back room. No more being relegated to watching of being on your phone parents can be in their own class.
My dream come true continues to grow, thank you all for being a part of this community.
