A couple of weeks ago, we received one of the most exciting emails we could imagine. The headline read: “Superheroes Requested at Shriners Hospital for National Superhero Day.” They were looking for a group of superheroes to visit sick kids at Shriners Hospital.

Did you know what Shriners Hospital is all about?
Shriners Children’s is a network of non-profit medical facilities across North America, providing specialized pediatric care regardless of families’ ability to pay. Their mission is to improve the lives of children through high-quality treatment, innovative research, and compassionate care—focusing especially on orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate.
I didn’t know much beyond the name Shriners before receiving this invite—but it only took a quick look at their history and mission to realize we were completely aligned.
Makaela and I immediately started talking about costumes, heroes, and logistics. Nothing was going to stop us from fulfilling this mission! In fact, after compiling a list of people I thought might be able to join us, we found out there was a limit to how many heroes we could bring. Honestly, I feel blessed to have too many heroes ready to answer the call.
When the day came, we sent Captain America, Spider-Man, and Spider-Woman (Ghost-Spider). Naturally, this meant there was some multiverse-crossing involved.
The heroes spent the day talking to kids, giving them capes to match their heroic energy, taking pictures, and showing off some amazing acrobatics. They were also visited by a number of volunteers and past presidents of the nonprofit hospital.

No villains were spotted that day—it was clear there were far too many heroes around for any shenanigans or evil activity. So instead, we focused on community, healing, and support. That energy is clearly abundant at Shriners Hospital, and we were honored to be invited to connect and play.
We look forward to the next opportunity to show up for other groups and communities. In fact, we’re always looking for a call to action—whether it’s a school, nonprofit, or any group helping make the world a better place. If you know of a cause or event, please reach out to us!
